George's Postcard Note: In a courtyard of the Sri Aurobindo Ashram, five miles south of Auroville in Pondicherry, is the Samadi. The Samadi is the large raised marble tomb of the Mother and Sri Aurobindo. A wonderful old sheltering tree extends its limbs. An endless stream of women, with trays of fresh flowers, constantly redesign an intricate floral tapestry that covers the Samadi. Incense burns. Gardeners replace potted plants, visitors and regulars sit shoeless around the periphery, and then move gently to the Samadi and back again. The scene slowly swirls and undulates throughout the day.
