George's Postcard Note: In from the blazing South Indian sun, into a large quiet darkened vestibule. Heavy sooty granite, frescoed ceilings, people hanging out on stone benches, like for the last thousand years here at Chidambaram Temple. Beyond, Brilliant Scenes: Fires! Smoke! Canopies! Saris! in a courtyard open to the sky. It drew me along the passageway toward the giant wooden doors.
