George's Postcard Note: We drove about 10 miles up the valley, to market day in Castelnuova di Garfangnana, main market town for the area. Market day is BIG, stalls everywhere selling everything. We bought food, music tapes (funny old ones - Italian opera, jazz for our terrible boom box), and gifts. We were impressed with how happy most people seem. I sat on a wall beside the ancient castle tower to paint the bright, nearly vertical noontime sunlight, and the shadows it cast. You can tell I�m using mostly brushwork to catch the contrasts and rich colors. Later I had fun choosing the stamps!
