George's Postcard Note: Barga is a very old town nestled on a plateau just above the Serchio valley. From our house in Sommocolonia we hear the bells of the Duomo, sometimes feel like we can reach out and touch it. One day we walked the whole way down on the steep old cobbled Roman road people used to use. (But took a taxi back!) I wanted to sketch Barga, and emphasized with line the way its houses huddle, surrounding the church and trying not to fall off into the valley. (The whole upper town was built inside castle walls.)
