George’s Postcard Note: On our day tour of the historic estancia’s north of Cordoba, we stopped here first. Its architecture is typical of the early Spanish colonial period – arched verandas, tile roofs and enclosed courtyards. We learned this “ranch” produced 30,000 mules a year to pull the wagon trade over the Camino Real from Buenos Aires to Lima, Peru, over the Andes. Big business in the 17th century. I’m from a rural southern state and remember seeing mules being used in the Delta. I wonder if any were cousins of these Spanish mules?
