George's Postcard Note: The river offers endless possibilities for painting – moods, seasons, light, water conditions – endless. This day I had looked at my stamps first and was inspired by Kline – its stark black and white linear shapes of paint. I thought I would see what I could do with that color basis with the addition of blue. The day was early enough so that the sun provided strong lights and darks, distinct shadows. And the sky was blue blue. Always entranced by the many tree shapes, while holding my palette to lights and darks, I had fun capturing this place on the river. In the end, I think, the Kline fit nicely in the tree branches it had inspired!
