George’s Postcard Note: It had been a long day, and I’d painted several postcards, but when I found this historic 18th century jewel, I couldn’t resist. Even before I began I saw the bird stamps in my cache perching on its roof. (Maybe it’s the bird life in the great old trees of this older part of town.) The house’s front facade is narrow. It squeezes very hard to conform to the small lot’s frontage along Pleasant Street. The house is longer as it extends down the side street, and one can see the changes and additions made as the family grew. Houses then were all made of wood, which allowed the carpenters to express their craft to the max – the fence, the posts, and the carved urns are just a few examples.
